Lower School

Lloyd Williamson School Foundation believes that each child is an individual.

We create the conditions for that child to reach their own unique potential.

Teachers build positive relationships, working with each pupil to be curious, intellectual and creative. Fear of failure is banished.

Equality and diversity permeate the fabric of our school - we are a family where everyone belongs.

About the School

Ofsted says:

"The headteacher has created a school in which staff are ambitious for pupils and make sure that pupils feel valued."

"Pupils are inquisitive and curious."

"Pupils appreciate highly the friendliness of the school".

See the latest Ofsted Reports here and here.

We have small class sizes with individual, tailored teaching. Children come from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, but they are all motivated.

We help them develop resilience, creativity and purpose. They feel safe, creative and curious, and are not stressed by education. Happy, confident students develop a rich and positive sense of who they are and can be.

We use the Oxford Reading Scheme Floppy's Phonics.

After School Clubs

We have an after school drop in club which runs until 5.30, but there are also activity clubs too - chess, lego, football, arts and crafts as extras.

"There’s a wealth of talent that lies in all of us. All of us, including those who work in schools, must nurture creativity systematically and not kill it unwittingly."    Sir Ken Robinson

At LWSF, we aim to encourage that creative spark.

Outdoor Learning

Cherub to year 3 go outside to learn every Tuesday, either visiting the nature reserve at Meanwhile Gardens or the community garden at St Charles hospital.

Children learn through what they do, through what they encounter and through what they discover. They work together and develop a lifelong love of the outdoors.

Houses

There are four houses -Badgers, Bears, Tigers and Wolves. Children earn house-points for effort, achievement and positive behaviour.

The houses compete at an annual Sports Day which is great fun for all the family. At the end of the academic year, the overall house winner is announced.

Children gain a positive sense of identity by belonging to their house and we have a strong tradition for each house raising money for charity during the year.

Lunches And Snacks

Parents provide their child’s morning fruit snack and we provide water and milk to drink. Our chefs prepare hot fresh lunches daily for the nursery children while the lunches for the school children are proved by Todmorden Foods, which are freshly cooked in their White City site and delivered in heated boxes. All the food is nutritiously balanced and cooked from scratch. Menus are available from the School Office. An afternoon snack is provided for nursery children and children staying for after school clubs.

Uniforms

Our uniform is an essential part of school identity. We expect all pupils to wear the correct uniform. Some uniform is available from our supplier, Billings and Edmonds and purchases can be made online or at their shop. Most new and second hand uniform is available for sale from the School Office.

Download the Uniform lists.

Physical Education

Children participate in a range of activities throughout the week, indoors/outdoors and as part of the school curriculum and after school clubs. These enjoyable activities contribute to the development of skills.

We offer a variety of team sports and swimming in the summer term.

We use are own playground, Kensington Memorial Park or Athlone Gardens every day for active play after lunch.

Curriculum
